Worcester To Get Grant Funding To Combat Gang Violence

Governor Charlie Baker has announced the release of $7.74 million in Senator Charles E. Shannon Jr., Community Safety Initiative Grant Program funds.

The Shannon Community Safety Initiative Grant funding is for communities that demonstrate high levels of youth violence and gang problems to combat gang violence.

Of the $7.74 million, Worcester will get $656,525.14 for social intervention and opportunity provision programs, as well as gang task force personnel costs and overtime.

Speaking on the grant at the State House, Lt. Governor Karyn Polito said, “Our municipal and local partners are on the front lines of combatting the gang violence that threatens the safety and well-being of everyone in their communities.”
