The suspect in Sunday night’s officer involved shooting in Newbury, has been identified as Thomas Murray, 31, of North Andover.
Murray was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
This is an active and ongoing investigation.
What is known as of now, is that Murray sometime on Sunday went to a BMW dealership in Nashua, New Hampshire and held an employee at knifepoint. Murray stabbed the employee and then fled the area with a stolen BMW from the dealership.
A BOLO for Murray was put out and he was located at the A.L. Prime on Central Street in Newbury. Officers boxed him in, exited their cruisers and asked Murray to get out of the vehicle.
There was a confrontation and Murray was shot. At this time it is not clear if it was one or multiple officers who discharged their weapons.
Again, this is an active and ongoing investigation.
