Early Friday evening around 4:30 p.m. officers with Springfield Police Department were in the area of Sunridge drive and Gifford Street when they observed what appeared to be a suspicious motor vehicle.
The vehicle was running and parked on the wrong side of the street. As the officers approached the vehicle they observed a male reclined in the drivers seat and officers could also smell a strong odor of marijuana from the vehicle.
The male in the drivers seat was identified as Carlton Ford, 21, and he informed the officers that he was rolling a blunt. As the Officers were going to write Ford a citation for open container of marijuana. a check of the vehicle registration revealed that it had been cancelled.
When Ford was removed from the vehicle, Officers observed in plain sight a firearm. A check of the firearm revealed that it was loaded and also that it was stolen out of North Carolina.
Ford was placed under arrest and charged with carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, improper storage of a firearm, receiving stolen property less the $1200, unregistered motor vehicle, uninsured motor vehicle, violation – open container of marijuana and violation – no inspection sticker.
