On Tuesday afternoon just after 2:00 p.m., officers with the Newton Police Department and troopers with the Massachusetts State Police responded to a report of an armed robbery at 16 Lincoln Street in Newton.
Upon arrival officers located a male suspect armed with a knife. That male who lives in an apartment above the business at 16 Lincoln Street, fled from the business to his apartment.
Officers followed this male and called for additional officers and a mental health clinician. Non-lethal force was deployed however was unsuccessful.
Two officers with the Newton Police Department then fired their service weapons and shot the male.
The male was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.
This officer involved shooting is under investigation by the District Attorney’s office.
