Boston Police Make Firearm Arrest On Homestead Street

Early Sunday morning at approximately 2:03 a.m., officers with the Boston Police Department assigned to District B-2 responded to a call for a fight in the area of 60 Homestead Street in Roxbury.

Upon arrival, officers observed a group of individuals arguing in front of the residence. As these individuals saw officers approaching them, the suspect who has been identified as Lesedi Melato, 22, of Weymouth began to walk away from the group and then took off running.

Officers pursued Melato on foot and eventually he was taken it custody. After being taken into custody, officers recovered a 9mm handgun which the Melato had discarded as he fled.

Melato has been charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Carrying a Loaded Firearm.
